Hi there!
That's my first post about my side project: WCS around the World.

Goal

The goal for this service is to promote West Coast Swing around the World.
I think it's about 100K people who knows about WCS, let's grow it 10x till the end of 2020, what do you think? :)

What's my MVP

The first step is to increase the number of new students. That's where the dance studios come in. So the first problem I want to solve is to connect potential dancers with the nearby dance studios!

And for that we need a database of current beginner classes with a channel to provide it, I've chosen the FB Messenger Chatbot to implement this, it's quite an unusual UI for such a service, let's see how it works :)

Next steps

Two directions where I can go.

The first one is improve the top part of the funnel. That is to increase the WCS awareness, Social Dance awareness, Dance awareness, so many obstacles here ;)

The second one is to integrate newcomers into the dance community. Educational materials, group lessons, privates, individual practices, parties, workshops and events - that's a lot. One by one from the moment of first triple-step to the oceans of fun and hard work (aha).

Both directions are worth going, will see as goes.

November update

Hi there, November update's here! It turned out that it's so difficult to get access to the newcomers. I don't know how it works in Europe or the States, but in Russia, all the newcomers are in their private group chats and nowhere else. So it's still hard to perform user research on this user segment. And it's hard to offer solutions if I don't know the context, that's why I need to think of a way to reach them. If you know how to reach them - let me know :) Otherwise, I continue to grow my WCS group via daily activities like video watching. Facebook doesn't have a simple way to promote a group, so I use a rather tricky solution with rebrandly URL shortener and custom images/CTAs. It would be better if Facebook Ads could provide a separate goal to optimize for group joining.

Another update, 9 Oct

So, my little steps in the name of WCS promotion continue. It's a new area for me and I make every mistake as I go, that's right :) After several attempts to attract the WCS newcomers straight from nowhere to the nearest classes I decided to make a pause and think about other hypothesis of what could attract newcomers to WCS. The previous idea was that the key obstacle to start dancing is that there is no information about local venues where to start. And if I could provide such an info - the person will find a way to start. The new idea to test is that the key obstacle is not about information absence but an proof absence - that you can start dancing without any background, and the friend support is the key force to make it work. So viral loops is the key solution. And for that I need some insights about YOUR first steps in WCS or another partner dance you've come for the first time in your life :) Leave a comment and we'll talk online :)

Another insight

There is one thing I've noticed this week during my FB Ads Experiments. They say there is no sex in WCS in comparison with some other social dances like kizomba, bachata, zouk, tango etc. They know nothing. WCS is full of content highlighting sexual pleasure and being sexually provocative or overly suggestive. It's a miracle they allow me to run any ads at all. That's a pity, because it means I need another source of traffic to promote WCS around the World.
